He also had an almost childlike fascination with worms. That doesn't negate the importance or enormity of his Theory.

It kinda does.

How??

His personal philosophies have nothing to do with whether or not his scientific ideas are valid or not.
Isaac Newton firmly believed in alchemy, but his principles of physics are still considered the foundation of all science (except quantum physics, but that doesn't count). Pythagoras believed that the universe was literally built out of mathematics, and yet we still use his theorum to fiddle with triangles. Edgar Allen Poe was a brilliant author whose works are considered by many to be the pinnacle of American Romantic writing, but he was a chronically depressive, maladjusted alcoholic who married his thirteen-year old cousin.

Brilliance does not require perfection.

Dude, Edgar Allen Poe was seriously fucked up. He is not a good example for your argument.

The fact that Poe was seriously fucked up makes him a better example for my argument.
He was ridiculously fucked up, had serious abandonment issues, and was arguably a pedophile. Nonetheless, he wrote some amazing works of literature. The fact that he was so fucked up does not make his work valueless. That's my point.

I dont belive his works were so great. Mostly because they suck, but partiall because in actuallity he was a fucked-up person.

That's a matter of personal opinion. The fact, however, is that he had a massive impact on the literature, and even society, of his day. He is still studied as one of the finest examples of American Romantic literature, and he all but invented the horror genre.

You may not like his works, but give credit where credit is due.

And, if I am reading your response correctly, your assumption that his writing is sub-par simply because he was a fucked up person is possibly one of the most closed-minded approaches to art-appreciation I have ever heard, second only to "Nah, I try not to read". By that same logic not a single post-renaissance artist is worth anything, and Mozart and Beethoven can both go screw.
Innovation almost requires a unique perspective, and that frequently means being at odds with the society one finds oneself in.

Then how can we take your word for anything?
You are, in fact, a highly fucked up person.

I am slowly coming to that realization, but I still feel obliged to counter the rampant tripe that he posts for some reason. To quote Real Genius, it's a moral imperative.

Though, I do apologize for turning your livejournal into a debate forum.

Soooo... just to make sure I understand what you're saying here: because someone's morals didn't agree with yours, their non-partial, scientific work is of no consequence?
